Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy (CLEL) has announced the shortlists today for its 2014 CLEL Bell Picture Book Awards. The Awards were created earlier this year to celebrate books that foster adult-child engagement around the early literacy practices of read, write, sing, talk, and play. The shortlists include 25 titles published in 2013, five in each of the categories representing an early literacy practice. The winning titles, one from each category, will be announced on February 5, 2014.
“We are confident that adults and children will have fun exploring these books together and we’re excited about the ways engagement with these titles can support children as they get ready to read,” says Carol Edwards, co-manager of children’s and family services at the Denver Public Library, CLEL member, and a member of the inaugural Bell Awards selection committee.
