NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio keynoted the event.

On August 5 at New York City’s Scholastic headquarters, Los Angeles Universal Preschool (LAUP), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide access to quality early childhood education programs for children in Los Angeles County, and Scholastic co-hosted the Preschool Nation Summit 2014 with keynoter speaker Mayor Bill de Blasio and other leaders and stakeholders both inside and outside the field of early education meeting to discuss the successes—and needs—inside the field of early education.

The panel sessions included: “What Is the State of Preschool in the Nation Now?”; “Preschool: It’s Not Just for Kids”; and “Early Learning: Beyond the Classroom.”

Participants from the day’s program came from different stripes of the education world, such as Carmen Fariña, chancellor of New York City Department of Education, Steve Barnett, executive director of the National Institute for Early Education Research, Suzanne Immerman, senior advisor to U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan and director of Strategic Partnerships, and Patti Miller, director of Too Small To Fail.
